Happy Advent season and welcome to Bearded Baker Brewstravaganza 2025. Thank you Jason for providing beer number 1 in this year’s advent. Beer number 1 is the Shiner Holiday Cheer from Spoetzl Brewery. Spoetzl (Shiner) Brewery opened in 1909 and is located in Shiner Texas. Shiner has received many awards over the years for their variety of beers. In 2013, Shiner Holiday Cheer won a bronze at the Australian International Beer Awards.

Shiner Holiday Cheer is a Bavarian-style dark wheat ale also known as Dunkelweizen. The 5.4% beer is brewed with peaches and pecans, then enhanced with malted barley and wheat which gives this smooth beer its subtle fruity taste. This Holiday Cheer ensures an excellent start to the holiday season!

A nice opening act to this year’s BBB advent! Darker than I expected, but smooth, with Caramel overtones. The 5.4, could let you drink quite a few. The can art was incredible, they made it look exactly like a bottle! Ha I’ll start out safely at 2.5 mugs!

This Beer was a great start to the holiday Beer advent! We drank this while finishing our decorations today and it was delicious! I’m thankful for this time of year, family, and all the precious memories that come with it🎄3 on the mug scale

⭐️⭐️⭐️½ — “A Beer That Cheers… but Doesn’t Quite Stand Up to Applaud”

Shiner Cheers is the kind of beer that walks into your fridge wearing a festive sweater and shouting, “PARTY TIME!”—but then sits quietly in the corner after one drink because it realizes it left its energy at home.

The flavor is bright, bubbly, and cheerfully confused—like it tried to be both a holiday treat and an everyday sipper but ended up somewhere in the middle, wearing reindeer antlers in June. It’s smooth, slightly sweet, and easy to drink, but not exactly the type of beer that inspires you to stand on a table and sing carols at strangers (which, frankly, is how I judge holiday beers).

Still, it’s enjoyable. Like that one coworker who always laughs too hard at your jokes—you don’t mind having them around, even if they’re not the life of the party.

Bottom line: A solid 3.5/5. It brings the “cheers,” but leaves the “wow” at home. Perfect if you want to feel festive… but only mildly so. 🎄🍻

Solid holiday beer; you can definitely taste the peaches and pecans. Great beer to kick off December and the holiday season.

3 / 5 Mugs

Margie’s pronunciation of the brewery name Spoetzl is like the Texan power grid – unreliable. Bottle art is festive. We like the color and aroma of the beer. The peach flavor is prominent on first taste. Although the ABV isn’t a heavy hitter, probably a one a done. Nice drinking beer after dinner. We do feel more cheer – thanks Jason! Somewhere between 3 and 4 mugs for us.

For someone who mostly drinks IPA’s, I found this beer to be quite enjoyable. The hints of peach are noticeable but not overpowering. The bottle is well designed and festive, which helps make it a great selection to kick off the brewstravaganza!

3.75 🍺

Hard not to be excited to kick off the season with my very own selection. Idk if it’s just me but it tastes a little more fruitier from last year. Nonetheless, it brings in a lot of holiday flavors! Gotta love that color too 🤌🏼. Love the classic Christmas design on the bottle.

This one gets 3.75 mugs from me! 🍺

A classic ale to start the Brewstavaganza! The peaches are subtle yet ‘shine’ through the flavor profile 😉 As far as the pecans I don’t really get too much of their flavor but I’m not complaining too much about that. It’s one of those beers that could grow on you the more you drink and almost has a Mad Elf taste yet won’t put you on your ass after two of them. Overall, not my usual style of beer to enjoy but did find some pleasure sipping on this in front of the Christmas decorations. I give this beer 3.3/5.0 mug score. Cheers and Merry Christmas!! Looking forward to the Brewstavaganza!!

Tis the season! Great start to the year with this one. This is a smooth male and can taste the peaches with each sip. I would give this one a 4 on the mug scale. I agree Mark, I could drink a couple of these.

I was really excited about this one! I love peaches and have tried several Shiner beers that I really like. This one is giving me peaches and cream oatmeal vibes and I’m not mad about it. I don’t know if I could drink more than one just because it’s a little bit sweet for me. It’s definitely unique which I appreciate!

🍺🍺🍺 out of 5.

A wonderful way to kick off Bearded Baker Brewstravaganza 2025! Shiner Holiday Cheer started off super sweet and peach forward, but simmered down after a few more sips. The beer has a beautiful reddish hue and surely didn’t disappoint in taste. Bottle design was fitting for the time of the year. I give this a 3.5 on the mug scale! Thankful for all of you being a part of the advent this season! 🍻

Love the festive bottle art!! We both enjoyed sipping this one with our dinner. Loved the peachy flavor and the holiday spice. 😋 Sweet finish was a little too much for us to want to drink more of these in one sitting. Wayne rates 2.5 mugs and Heather rates 3 mugs. Overall, great first beer to kick off the Brewstravaganza. Excited for tomorrow’s selection! Happy Holidays! 🎄 🍻

Great start to the advent as we used this to drown our sorrows while dropping a small fortune on Cyber Monday for our kids Christmas gifts. Maria enjoyed the peach sweetness and I thought this one balanced the overt sweetness pretty well. Curious if they brewed with actual peaches or just used a peach flavoring. 3.5/5 🍻

Merry Brewstravaganza!!🎅🏼 Both of us were pleasantly surprised with this kick off beer. We love the label art and got an “old time German Christmas” feel from it, which set the perfect scene as we tasted it by the Christmas tree. Reading the description we were both a bit nervous considering we normally lean towards IPAs and don’t particularly love super fruity beers, but we both agreed that we enjoyed this much more than we expected to! The peach was prominent but not too crazy sweet and we enjoyed the combo of that with the Dunkelweizen style. We could imagine ourselves drinking this beer at a German Christmas village and it gives us warm & cozy vintage Christmas vibes. 2.5🍺 from us! Cheers!

Ho, Ho , Ho. What a great tasting beer to start off with. Great choice Jason. Saw this at Breski’s when I was there and wasn’t sure if I would like it because it is dark beer. But damn, I was so wrong. This is a smooth ALE (not Male) like someone spelled in one of there posts. Now you know he got his spelling from his Mom. I wish I had some more of these but I know where I can go buy me some at another time.
Can’t wait for tomorrow.

Nice easy drinkable beer! You get hit with the peaches right away before even a sip. Definitely on the sweeter side but a nice refreshing way to close out a Monday! 3 mugs from me!
