2023--BEER #7: Catchy Chorus (Dogfish Head BREWING COMPANY)

Thank you John for providing this tasty tune on a Friday! Catchy Chorus (9% ABV) is a double IPA that is dry hopped and blended with Eureka, Bravo, Calypso, and Azacca hops. Grapefruit, mandarin orange, and green mango are the flavor notes that round out this melody brewed by Dogfish Head Brewing Company. At 9%, this beer will definitely tickle the vocal cords. Catchy Chorus Double IPA was inspired by the four "magic chords" (E, B, C#m, and A) and has been the official beer of Record Store Day for eight straight years. Dogfish Head Brewing Company was founded in 1995 in Milton, DE by Sam and Mariah Calagione. They partnered with the Boston Beer Company several years later.

Happy Friday everyone! This beer had me singing a tune… ok I’ll stop haha! I like it, it’s not what I was expecting with the 9%, it was tasty and an easy drinker which could be dangerous! I love the can in association with name! Hope everyone has Christmas under control! I’m getting stressed! This beer sure helped👍😊cheers🍻

I sipped this beer while I made Christmas cookies and it was delightful! This hazy ipa is exactly what I would’ve ordered at a brewery and I love dogfish head. I rate this a 4.8 on the mug scale. Loved it!!!!!!

Very tasty beer! A lot smoother for a 9% beer than I expected. I get a heavy taste of the mango initially and a finish of the grapefruit. I really like the can and the colors that make up the end of the guitar. The story behind this beer and the creativity of the specific types of hops being used in accordance with the magic music chords really intrigued me! I rate this a 4.4 on the mug scale.

I could *sing* the praises of this beer all night long! Brandon and I have tried this beer previously when we visited the dogfish head brewery this past summer, and it was definitely our favorite of the night. Nothing has changed as this is my favorite beer of the brewstravaganza so far! I can taste the grapefruit, orange and mango all equally in a beautiful blend. No fruit is too overpowering or sweet and the hop taste comes through at just the right intensity. I agree with everyone so far commenting that the smoothness of this beer would never suggest a 9% ABV. I really love this beer and it is very high on my scale even outside of this exchange. My only complaint is the can… it lacks a lot of artistry in my opinion and with the name “catchy chorus” I would expect a much more colorful display. This doesn’t make a big impact on my rating though, since the taste of the beer and the record day fact definitely made up for it. I give this lovely beer a final 4.6/5!

Best beer so far. Especially after coming home from a flight back from Illinois after a work trip. Can art was plain, but didn’t have a problem with it because the beer was so good. I just wish I knew who this John person was so I could shake his hand after such a good pick. I give this a 4.5 /5mugs.

I was real happy after that first big gulp! Smooth and nothing overpowering and bitter and no ugly after bite…definitely a drinkers beer, and at 9% one to say here’s my keys ha I agree with Maddie about the colors and the can, but the beer was music to my ears and I was happy to hear people singing it’s praises. I might be partial, but 5/5 on our mug scale. Drinking several will definitely get you tuned up a bit!

Well done John. This was a very tasty hazy IPA. Dogfish have some excellent beers and this was definitely one of them. The can art went very well with the name of the beer. The taste was very good and the 9% was a plus. I could easily sit around watching some games and have 3 or 4 of these. I would give this beer 4.2 bearded mugs out of 5.

For this being 9% it is a lot easier to drink than expected. I have had some Dogfish beers before and they all have been very good so far. I really like the can design and the colors they chose to use. This would be a beer I ordered at a brewery for sure. I really enjoy the mango flavor it has. I would give this 4.5/5 mugs.

This is a sneaky 9% IPA! Went down smooth with the hoagie from Bruno’s Hoagies in Lebanon, PA. Really neat concept for Record Store Day (had to do a little research on their site to see what that was about) and I’m all for it! I don’t think I’ve had a bad DogFish Head beer. Thank you Tyler for providing this selection on a Friday, whether you tried that or not! And thank you John for this pick! 4.3 mug. Cheers!

Extremely refreshing double IPA! Got a really big hit of the orange mentioned in the description which I’m a fan of! Dogfish really has a good one here with this hazy double. Loved the fact it was hazy with more of a fruit taste rather than straight haze. 4 mugs!!

I’m a day late but not a dollar short..this hazy double from Dogfish Head is exactly the type, taste, and ABV I look for in a beer! The tasted the beer first and couldn’t quite pinpoint the citrusy fruit I was tasting. Once reading the mandarin orange description that’s exactly what it was. For a hazy it was more pale yellow in color than usual which surprised me but I also thought was cool. When it comes to the can art, I once again am disappointed. Kind of similar to Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head is a well known enough brewery where they don’t need to make a statement with their cans but I wish they would just indulge me and create something fun and interesting. Overall, this beer earns a 4.6 out of 5 mugs! I thoroughly enjoyed everything (except the can art) about this beer and if I ever see it whole beer shopping I will be making a purchase. Great pick Big John!

What is Record Store Day – is this another Hallmark holiday? Can art is catchy, door knobs or speakers, bad drawing of a turntable. Margie likes the notes, musical score, and the name Catchy Chorus. Just can’t figure out what in tarnation are the round looking bolt things are? Too much time looking at can art. Beer has a sweet aroma. Has a bite going down but at 9% I guess it should. It’s just not my style, too dry of a finish for my taste buds. Ron likes the smell of the beer and not overly strong going down the pipe. Reminds be of Blizzard of Hops.

Margie beer rating = 1.5
Ron beer rating = 3
