Thank you MarRon for providing this beer! Big Timber Porter (6.5% ABV) is a Porter beer from the Big Timber Brewing Company. This Porter offers balanced rich flavors and aromas such as coffee, dark chocolate and pinch of tobacco and dried fruit.  A few sips of this beer may have one shouting, "Shiver Me Timbers!" Big Timber brewing company started in 2014 and is located in Elkins, West Virginia. The brewery totes their inspiration from the woodlands in the heart of Appalachia, surrounded by nature on all sides.

At first glance the can art is simple but not too shabby. Makes me want to chop some wood! After pouring, the consistency looked like motor oil but that seems to be a constant for stouts. Definitely a tough beer for myself as I’m not much of a stout fan but I will say one bright side of this beer was the coffee finish. Overall will give this beer a 2.2/5 but take my rating with a grain of salt. Thanks MarRon!

Your welcome. As noted in our last review, BEARDED BAKER BREWSTRAVAGANZA MUG SCALE values are integers. What’s with the fraction? Too drunk to follow the rules? Read the can. This is a porter, not a stout. :)

Well I see a few others using a fraction as well so lemme see you take that same energy on down the list! :) As for the beer, I wish I had been drunk when I drank it LOL ❤️

Day #5 and another dark one for the Brewstavaganza! Interestingly enough neither of them are stouts which is unique in itself. This beer is a product of the brewery Big Timber which coincidentally was my locker room nickname back in highschool. Upon pouring, the first thing I noticed about this beer is how exceptionally dark it is, almost pitch black, which made me a lil nervous but after sipping my nerves were eased! I immediately tasted the chocolate and coffee flavors which I really enjoy in darker beers. I know porters and stouts and different in the way they are brewed but when it comes to taste I have trouble differentiating between the two styles and this beer is no different in that regard. Rereading the description of the taste notes, I was pleased to not taste any fruit or tobacco notes which would have turned me off to it. I always associate darker beers with cold weather and it’s fitting for today as it was a blistery one out there! The beer kind of sits heavy in my stomach and would be a one-and-done kind of beer had I ordered it out. The can art for me is a dud. I get the theme they were going for with all the woodworking tools and the Big Timber name but I feel like they just chose some clip art and applied it all over the can instead putting effort into it. As for a rating, this beer earns 2.6 mugs out of 5 from me. If I was more of a dark beer fan I could see how this would be a regular in my fridge but unfortunately they just aren’t my style. I hope everyone enjoys and I look forward to reading the reviews throughout the night, cheers!! 🍻🍺

I don't think I’ve ever ordered or bought a porter in my life! No better way to expand my tastebuds than to do it with the brewstravaganza. That being said, as I was pouring this into my glass I noticed that it smelled exactly like an iced coffee. The description is very accurate and the can art is very outdoorsy. I could see a lumberjack chugging this beer then chopping down a tree in one swing. Liked the beer but not my typical style! I’ll rate this a 2.7 on the mug scale!!

I don’t feel very fair commenting on this beer because it’s a combo of two flavors I really dislike (porters and coffee) but I gave it a chance and took a few sips! It honestly was not as bad as I was expecting it to be, I thought the beer was very smooth and I appreciated how the coffee taste came through at the end. I didn’t taste a lot of the chocolate, though. Overall I was happy to try something new as I desperately wish I could be a fan of the darker beers, but I just don’t think they’re for me. Maybe some day. 2/5!

Nice can art with homage to the timber industry, noticed it wasn’t a label so presume this is a year round. Margie is a fan of the Mother Nature slogan – don’t be a DB as the Alchemist would say. Pours dense color with thick, foamy head with beer lacing on the side of the glass after drinking a few sips. Margie likes ABV not too high, sweetness in the front and slight coffee bitter finish. Ron tastes smooth malty, coffee forward flavor without bitterness, chocolate shows up in the aftertaste. We’re a fan of coffee and chocolate, this beverage didn’t disappoint - solid. Envision drizzling this porter on a stack of pancakes, topping off the coffee and guzzling the rest for a good time morning attitude.

Margie beer rating = 4.25
Ron beer rating = 4

Good evening fellow beer drinkers! I stepped out of my comfort zone to drink tonight's porter because I don't enjoy them enough to order when I'm out or purchase them at the distributor. With that said, Big Timber Porter is very flavorful and I can't say I hate it. Big strong coffee taste for me but that's about all I tasted. In fact, this beer might just keep me awake all night! However, I think it helped to put sleepy Wayne in bed early, even before tonight's Brewstravaganza posting. :) Can art is very fitting for the Brewery name but kind of "meh" overall. I rate this beer a 2/5 on the beer rating scale. Cheers!

When I saw this was a porter this morning when I put it in my frig, I was not looking forward to sitting down and drinking this one. The can caught my eye, liked how it looked. Once I opened it and took my first sip I was surprised by the taste. Definitely tasted like an iced coffee drink which I enjoyed. I would not go out an order a porter but if I saw this one on the menu I would get it again. I will give it 3.2 bearded mug out of 5 just because I don’t really drink porters but this beer has opened my mind to give other porters a chance to surprise me.

Cheers everyone! As a lot of people said, I’m not a dark beer fan either, but this beer was really tasty! Just like a good iced coffee! I had to laugh out loud at Heather saying it may keep her up all night, that was my thought as well haha! I’m appreciative that I get to try new and different beers this time of year! Who knows I may just go out on a limb… not one that will be cut down :) and get a porter sometime! I rate it a 3 out of 5 mugs. I liked the can too!

Over the years I have grown to appreciate darker beers. Generally I lean toward stouts, but this porter was a very tasty treat. I was very impressed with the smooth pour and perfect amount of foam on top seemingly looking like a coffee drink. Aroma wise I definitely smell chocolate, taste wise I get coffee and a bit of a smoky aftertaste. I like this as I do enjoy when my coffee has a bit of smokiness to it as well. I appreciate the can art as I also do believe it made my beard grow a few more inches from the lumberjack inspiration after a few sips. Great way to end the night by pouring this in my “Sunny Side Up” mug and watching some late night hoops while the Christmas tree lights twinkle throughout the room. I rate this a 3.8 on the mug scale.

I am not a huge fan of porters. Normally when I get porters I will get them in a flight because that’s about how much of them I can drink, but I did finish this one. At first it was tough to drink, but did get easier as I kept drinking. I definetly taste the coffee but not so much the chocolate that is in it. I would give this a 2 out of 5 mugs.

Well well well, slap a flannel on me and pour me a Big Timber! Love the name, the can and the coffee flavor! I too normally favor a coffee stouts over porters but this was smooth and refreshing! I could’ve even used more coffee flavor initially but the more you drink the more coffee I tasted and as someone who drinks 5-7 cups of black coffee a day, I enjoyed it! 3.8 mugs from me!

Always scary those Porters, last year I think we had 3, and weird but I could drink them. This one has a huge coffee taste, chocolate not so much, slow sipper, and thinking coffee, would have been good with a few Christmas cookies. I was puzzled by the beer not actually having a name, just the brewery name and the style, the can art reflected extremely well to the brewery name! 3/5

And the pattern of a lot of us beer drinkers here continues…I’m not a frequent purchaser of dark beers. I think it stems from a rough Black and Tan tailgate at a Penn State game once. With that said, this was better than I was expecting. A good beer to come home and crack open after a Hershey Bears OT win. Maybe I need to start to branch out a little more. I give this a 3.2 mug (also the Bears score). Thanks MarRon! Cheers!
