2023--BEER #3: Special Cookie (Free Will BREWING COMPANY)

Thank you Maddy for providing this special beer to kickoff the week. Special Cookie (10.8% ABV) is an imperial/double spiced brown ale made with vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar, cardamom, ginger, and milk sugar. This beer is made for a special relaxing night, maybe accompanied by a glass of milk after indulging in this tasty 10.8% beer. Free Will Brewing company is a micro brewery founded in 2012 in Perkasie, PA. The brewery consists of a taproom, a barrel house, and lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the food trucks or live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Who doesn’t like a cookie, right? Can art is cool but a little confusing as to how it relates to the cookie theme. Margie smells sweetness and tastes boozy. No need to add a cookie to this sampling. She’s glad it’s only a half pour so we didn’t waste a beer, which never happens under my watch. Too boozy and sweet. Ron is enjoying the beer as a sipper after dinner.

Nice can😊 if I saw this on a beer list I would not order it, however this was a very enjoyable beer with holiday taste warmth! This why I enjoy this tradition, we taste and come to appreciate new beers! Cheers🍻

I enjoyed this beer! I rate it a 3.7 on the beer scale. It was very flavorful and you gotta love the 10.8% ABV. Unfortunately, due to the sweetness, it really is a "one and done" for me, but it was tasty. Can art is 5 stars - you can't go wrong with Krampus on the label!

A brown ale is normally not a top choice for me when going to a brewery. This one is not too bad. It is a little sweet which I think makes it easier to drink for me. It is a nice sipper while enjoying the Monday Night Football game. I would rate this a 3 out of 5.

Not going to lie, this brown ale scared me a bit, first sip, I was saying cookie, please cookie, second sip the cookie came out, very mush a slow sipper, the advent does challenge us on different beers which really makes it fun! I’ll go 2.5/5, we didn’t have any cookies to dip yet, or I might have tried.

Great looking label, especially with the Santa cap. This would not be a beer I would get if I was out but after tasting it I will give others a try, not a bad taste at all. I would give this a 3.5 bearded mugs out of 5. I am really enjoying trying new beers.

Very cool can! I definitely get the cookie flavoring as it reminds me of something similar to a shoo fly pie taste to it. Very rich with a caramel and syrupy aftertaste. For a 10.8% I expected a bit more of a bite to it, but it was really smooth. Great way to enjoy not 1, but 2 Monday Night Football games! Like many of you have mentioned, I really do enjoy trying new beers throughout the advent! 3.3 mugs from me!

Wooowie…the first dark beer of the Brewstavaganza and it’s a doozy. This heavy hitter from Free Will is jammed packed with all sorts of flavors and I gotta say I did enjoy it. Initially the sweetness of this beer was slightly overwhelming but it quickly subsided after swallowing and the spice of the beer really came through. I agree with the beers description of enjoying a nice glass or milk along with some cookies after consuming because that’s exactly what I plan on doing. The name Special Cookie kind of has a sexual connotation to it and I gotta say I kinda dig it. The artwork is unique and reminds me of medieval times or old historic paintings and fits the beers taste in my opinion. Overall, this is to me a dessert beer that I’d enjoy after a light dinner. The 10.3 ABV ups the rating for me bc if I’m gonna drink a beer this decadent I want it to get me going a little bit. I give this beer a 3.3 out of 5 mugs which is fairly good for a sweet, darker beer. Definitely a unique one that I’m glad I got to try, thank you Maddy!!

Read the description and was a bit nervous as I do not usually like most brown ales! Smelled similar to the master of pumpkins, which I love, and first sip was very sweet. As I kept sipping, I slowly started to enjoy more. 10.8% ABV is a win and I definitely could taste the each ingredient listed. One and done kinda beer for me! Can art was super cool and overall I’d rate this a 3.3 mugs!

I guess I’ll start out by apologizing for making everyone try this one😂 I personally am not a big fan of brown ales or sweeter beers either, but I thought I’d branch out and try something festive I normally wouldn’t. It definitely is a lot sweeter than I was hoping for, but this beer is exactly what it says it is so I’ll give it points for that. The cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar and cardamom are all highly pronounced. I will also say there was a slight boozy taste that I really do not like in my brews. The can art is the main reason I picked this beer, because who doesn’t love Krampus?! This beer is definitely one and done for me (and had to drink it slowly) but I appreciate all of the seasonal flavors and that 10.8 ABV can do no wrong. This gets a 2.9 mug rating for me. Thanks Tyler for putting this all together and giving us a reason to try new things!

The spice is nice but the abv is better! Enjoyed our first non-ipa beer of the event, very holiday feeling and enjoyable. Definitely a desert beer that left me feeling full from the sweetness but satisfied with a subtle buzz. I always appreciate a style of beer I typically don’t order. 3.5 mugs
