2023--Beer #1: So Stupendous (Prison City Brewery)

On the first day of Brewstravaganza, we start of with a New England Hazy IPA called So Stupendous (6.7% ABV). Thank you to one of our new members, Jeff, for starting the Bearded Baker Brewstravaganza 2023 with this tasty treat! So Stupendous is a New England Hazy IPA brewed with Strata and Citra hops. This beer boasts a mixture of passion fruit, sticky ganja, guava, grapefruit, and mango. This beer isn't just stupendous, it is SO Stupendous. Prison City Brewery is located in Auburn, New York, established in 2014 that offers beers, food and camaraderie.

Fantastic beer, I’ll give it a 4/5. Unfortunately is the first in the lineup so tough to give a 5. Can art is awesome and taste is even better. Something I’d definitely throw in the fridge for casual drinking. Great way to start the stravaganza!

A strong start to our annual tradition! I am personally a big fan of this one. Hazy and grapefruit are 2 of my favorite words when it comes to a beer, so after reading the can I had high hopes. I really enjoyed the immediate hazy taste and definitely noticed the grapefruit flavor afterwards. I didn’t taste the passion fruit or mango much, but that’s okay with me. A really good beer that I could see us having at the house to enjoy regularly.

Ahhh my favorite time of the year with one of my favorite new traditions, the Brewstavaganza!!!

It’s always nice to kick things off with a solid, tasty beer and So Stupendous did not disappoint! I was happy to see a NE Hazy lead off the event as it is my favorite type of beer and Prison City seems to know what they’re doing when it comes to Hazies. I do taste the juiciness of this beer with every sip yet I couldn’t pinpoint which fruit notes I am tasting. It was interesting to see grapefruit and mango in the description as I did not quite taste either of those. Also, coming from a connoisseur, I did not taste the ‘sticky ganja’ as described either. With that being said, whatever fruit notes I am tasting I really do enjoy! The can art is great as it’s a great mix of practical and abstract art, perfect for craft beer and somewhat hard to do. This is the type of beer you can drink any day of the week and any time of the day. As Muttdog said, this is a beer to keep in the fridge at all times. Overall I give this beer a 4.1/5. Anything above a 4 in my books is an exceptional beer and So Stupendous is just that. As a new member of this event, Coach really ‘drilled’ this one (get it??). I hope everyone enjoyed this beer as much as I did, Merry Christmas to all and I look forward to next 15!!

Really enjoyed the hazy IPA. I am sometimes skeptical of New England IPAs as sometime they be a bit too floral for me. However, that being said I definitely got the notes of grapefruit more than any of the other fruits. I definitely got a dank aftertaste, interestingly enough seeing that sticky ganja is part of the flavor profile. Can art was very cool. Great way to start the Brewstravaganza! Appreciate all of you that I’ve been able to enjoy some brews with over the last 2 weeks! Can’t wait to see what else is in store for the next 15 days! Cheers! 🍻

A truly smooth drinkable beer like a tiger laying in a lily field but a hazy bite like a rhino running through a thunderstorm as the can art depicts. For hazy fans this truly hammers home the hazy Burney after taste. This burn is not typically a favorite of mine but the overall soft initial hit make this opening beer a 4 out of 5 for me. Great start to a bearded brewstavanganza!!

Can art review - doesn't everything run from thunder s=ays Margie who sniffs the beverage and appreciates fruity notes are not grapefruit forward. Tastes fruity but unable to pick out certain fruit taste, not a bitter finish which she enjoys. Ron is happy this isn't an overt juice NE IPA, rather very drinkable, a four pack is probably in the future.

Well thank you for letting me be a a part of this great tradition. The art work on the can is well done and catches your eye. As for the taste, I believe it has a great taste and is a beer I could sit down an have a couple of them. I would give it 4 out of 5 beards.

Loving the tradition; nice start to the 2023 addition, the art was really cool, not a reflection of the tough scary name of Prison City Brewing. The beer is a nice smooth tasting hazy, really great taste. I only see one issue with this beer, after drinking several of these, ordering the next one you just might spit on the bartender saying…So Stupendous! A beer worthy of its name! 4.2/5 mugs!

Loved the look of this hazy as I poured it into my “Saturdays are for the dads” glass. Hazy’s are my personal favorite so I was excited. I will have to say I think it was a tad too sweet for my tastebuds but I did enjoy it all the way through. Can art was fun and spunky like the flavors within the beer. 3.5 in the mug scale for me!! Would drink again. Just not super often.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of the countdown! I rate this beer a 4 out of 5. My only wish would be for it to have little more of a mango taste to help being out the other taste. Overall very delicious and easy to drink! Cheers!

Cheers to my fellow Brewstravaganza drinkers! I enjoyed this kick-off beer very much as I am a big fan of NE IPA's and I love the grapefruit-y ones the most. I didn't really taste anything other than the grapefruit in this one and would have enjoyed more mango. I give this beer a 4 out of 5 rating on the beer scale. After drinking this one, I wished I had another. Definitely will be shopping for this in the future!

I give this NE IPA a 3.9 on the beer scale. I enjoyed it very much and could definitely drink a few of those in the future. I also dig the can art. Cheers to the kick-off!
